Each poster in this collection is a testament to the ingenuity and artistic spirit of Ghanaian creators, who turned limited resources into powerful visual narratives. These artworks are not only promotional tools but also cultural artifacts that reflect the socio-economic conditions and global influences of their time.

The rich culture of the African people is etched into our very art .It remains our escape, our communique, our very lives perpetually encapsulated using wood, cloth, bronze and other media in an exquisite way. To us, art is life: a channel that bears the tales of years gone by and a guide to shaping our future pathways whilst narrating to us the epistle of our journey as a people, our battles and our victories, from the past to the present.

It is in this light that AMBA Gallery presents A Journey From The Past To The Present Exhibition of bronze sculptures ,wood carvings, stools , Kente and Asafo flags dating more than two decades , handled by master craftsmen, laced with stories of resilience, wealth and magic, and crafted by artisans with skill, passion and purpose, giving each piece a unique story. The pieces which would be displayed on a background with a texture of the indigenous African feel of terra cotta would not only bring the spirit behind the pieces to life, it would awaken the inner artist within you as you indulge and connect to them. These pieces from Ghana, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Mali and Nigeria, and each have a tale to tell and a connection to the lands of origin.

The tile of our inaugural exhibition is more than just that, it a declaration of our intent but a reflection of the current contemporary African art narrative. The opening exhibition comprises a new body of work by fine art photographer Derrick O. Boateng, who recently exhibited in Amsterdam and Paris. A Ghanaian digital artist inspired from childhood by the colours found on his mother’s African print dresses and wraps Derrick’s work captures hope and optimism –  “through my viewfinder, I see beyond our past. A new decade for art, a bright future at last,” .
